VHUers "Say No" with addictive substances – Spreading the message of healthy living, proactively protecting health and the future

Recently, Van Hien University organized a special workshop “Students Say No to Addictive Substances”  with the goal of propagating, educating and raising students' awareness in preventing, identifying and actively saying no to addictive substances and related law violations. This event was a highlight in the series of activities celebrating Văn Hien University’s 28th anniversary (July 11, 1997 – July 11, 2025).

The workshop featured two distinguished speakers: Lieutenant Colonel Hồ Ngọc Văn from Team 1, PC04 Division, Ho Chi Minh City Police Department, and Mr. Le Dien Trung (Doctor, Level II Specialist) - Head of the Outreach Department at Trung Vuong Hospital. Through engaging and visually rich presentations, they provided comprehensive insights into common addictive substances, signs of addiction, withdrawal syndromes, and their severe impacts on both physical and mental health. 

Dr. Le Dien Trung emphasized the harmful effects of drugs and stimulants, which lead to numerous health consequences.

Dr. Le Dien Trung emphasized the harmful effects of drugs, stimulants and especially cigarettes – which seem harmless but are the gateway to many health consequences. Dr. Le Dien Trung also mentioned the behaviors necessary to change smoking habits, and at the same time analyzed in depth 06 criteria for diagnosing addiction according to ICD-10 and the manifestations of withdrawal syndrome.

With many years of experience, Lieutenant Colonel Ho Ngoc Van has brought participants "back to reality" through a series of specific drug cases. Lieutenant Colonel Ho Ngoc Van pointed out the sophisticated tricks that drug criminals use to lure students: from the party environment, social networks to seemingly harmless relationships. Warning of the trend of rejuvenation in drug use, Lieutenant Colonel called on students to be vigilant, and at the same time provide skills to identify, prevent and denounce violations of the law related to addictive substances.

The workshop This program was not only educational in theory but also deeply rooted in real-life application, helping students strengthen their resolve and enhance their ability to protect themselves against temptation. Above all, the message "Say NO to addictive substances" has been strongly conveyed, arousing the spirit of initiative – alertness – responsibility of each VHUers in the journey of self-development.

With the valuable baggage from the topic, each VHUer will be more stable on the path of learning and self-development, fully equipped with "baggage" to protect themselves, and moreover, join hands to build a clean school and social environment. healthier and more peaceful – where each of us can confidently reach for the brightest future!
